Vice President Wang Jinzhen Leads a Delegation to the US and Guyana to Issue Invitations and Promote for the Beijing Expo 2019

From June 19 to June 23, Wang Jinzhen, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Member of the Organization Committee of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition and Chief Representative of the Chinese Government, led a delegation to the US and Guyana to issue invitations and promote the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition. The delegation visited institutions including the United States Department of State, the United States Department of Commerce and the Secretariat of Caribbean Community (hereinafter referred to as CARICOM), among others, conducting thorough communications concerning the participation of invited countries and international organizations including the US, Central American countries and CARICOM, etc., in the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition.

Vice President Wang Jinzhen led the delegation to successively visit the Deputy-Director of Office of Foreign Missions of the United States Department of State Cliff (transliteration), the Assistant Deputy Minister of the United States Department of Commerce in Charge of China Affairs Alan Turley, the Vice President of the United States-China Business Council Erin Ennis, the General Manager of Department of Overseas Promotion and Partnership of Inter-American Development Bank Bernardo Guillamon, the Deputy Secretary-General of Secretariat of CARICOM Cox, the Director of Department of Foreign Trade of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guyana Zhou Yaxin and Vice President of the Investment Office of Guyana Cipisa (transliteration), among others. He gave them a thorough introduction to relevant situation and financial support policy of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition, further explained the important role of the Beijing International Horticultural Exposition in promoting bilateral and multilateral exchanges in areas of economy, trade, technology and culture, and invited countries and international organizations including the US, Central American countries and CARICOM, etc. to participate in the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition.

Politicians and businessmen of the United States generally agreed with the important role of the Beijing International Horticultural Exposition, and said that they would actively support the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition through their channels. The Office of Foreign Missions of the United States Department of State said that although the Federal Government of the United States did not provide financial support for them to participate in the expo, they would promote the participation of the United States in the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition by actively contacting relevant institutions; the United States-China Business Council said that they would take advantage of their influence to promote the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition to their member enterprises, thus seeking sponsorship for the United States to participate in the expo from these enterprises; the Inter-American Development Bank said that they planned to consider discussing the possibility of holding their annual meeting during the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition with China, thereby enriching the content of the meeting.

The Secretariat of CARICOM showed great interest in the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition. They believed that the International Horticultural Exposition was not only an important platform for showing Caribbean area’s achievements in horticultural technology and social and economic development, but also helpful to strengthen cooperation between CARICOM member countries and China in economy, trade, agriculture and touring, etc., thus offering strategic opportunities for further developing relations with China. In view of limited economic strength of some member countries of CARICOM, they hoped that China could provide corresponding financial support for their participation in the expo.  

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guyana said that Guyana was actively implementing expo participation. The Ministry organized relevant departments of the government to establish a joint team for considering expo matters, and put forward the suggestion to hold a Forum on China-Guyana Economic and Trade Cooperation during its National Pavilion Day, thereby promoting the all-round development of bilateral relations.
