Open-air Amusement Gatherings on Lantern Festival

Open-air Amusement Gatherings on Lantern Festival is an old traditional custom, popular among the masses, recorded as early as the Ming Dynasty in Annals of Longqing. After hundreds of years of inheritance, this custom still enjoys great, special popularity in Yanqing. When it comes to the Lantern Festival, all organizations of amusement activities would gather together to perform in the most prosperous and bustling local block, celebrating the holiday with wild excitement. After a short break during the “Cultural Revolution”, the Yanqing County resumed the custom in the late 1970s, which has continued until now. In the current Open-air Amusement Gatherings on Lantern Festival, the most characteristic programs around the county would be selected after several rounds under the unified organization of the local county government every year prior to the Lantern Festival, and will be performed at a fixed area in the county on the Lantern Festival. This activity attracts tens of thousands of visitors inside and outside the county every year, and has become a traditional folk festival, with the most participants, wide popularity and entertainment.
